Safety Group Member Entitlements

In addition to the financial gains, WSPS Safety Group members receive:

Consulting
Firms receive general consulting calls as well as expert support from WSPS Consultants, including site visits, identification of potential improvements and discussions with management and the JHSC regarding proposed recommendations.  WSPS also provide assistance with the initial and final verification of the Safety Group’s five elements action plan, policy building and element review at Safety Group meetings.

Meetings
WSPS hosts five meetings a year to guide Safety Group members through the implementation phase by providing structured support and advice from the WSPS Chapter Group Leader.

Networking
Firms have the opportunity to network at Safety Group meetings or by e-mail with participants across Ontario to share best practices, procedures, experiences as well as the opportunity to mentor other firms.

Training
WSPS offers a wide array of training, workshops and consulting services outside of the Safety Group chapter meetings to support members through their health and safety program development.

Resources
Firms receive access to safety and claims management information, WSPS’s Information Resource Centre, and a website developed exclusively for Safety Group members to share information.

Discounts
Firms receive 10% savings on WSPS training courses*, Health & Safety Canada Conference and Trade Show, workshops, regional conferences and on-site training including technical services such as ergonomics assessments and industrial hygiene testing.  The 10% saving is in addition to training and services provided by WSPS to the Safety Group as a whole.


How WSPS Contributes to the Group's Success

As the group sponsor, WSPS provides administrative assistance for the coordination and execution of the five meetings throughout the year. Plus:

  • Required training, workshops and consulting at the group meetings
  • Safety Group program consulting
  • Assistance with: initial and final verification of the Safety Group's five element action plan; policy building and element review at the group meetings
  • Meeting facilities for all group meetings and training sessions
  • Networking lunches and breakfasts

A Schedule that Respects Your Valuable Time

Participation in Safety Groups

To participate in Safety Groups a firm must:

  • Have commitment from the owner or senior management to participate in the program.
  • Create and enhance a safety culture in the workplace.
  • Be a Schedule 1 * firm.
  • Be in compliance with the WSIB. Schedule 1 and non-construction employers are encouraged to check this by completing Compliance Audit for Employers which can be found on the WSIB’s website.
  • Commit to participating for at least one full calendar year.
  • Be in only one safety group at a time.
  • Not be participating in the Safe Communities Incentive Program.
  • Complete all of the requirements of the Safety Groups program such as:
    • Participate in no less than three safety group meetings throughout the year. The person attending should be a senior manager or owner of the firm.
    • Complete the required base line and year-end workplace assessments.
    • Develop an action plan to implement the achievement list elements.
    • Complete the five new achievement list elements.
    • Keep sponsor informed of their progress.
  • Submit documentation with their year-end report demonstrating completion of the five steps for each achievement list element on their action plan.
  • Each firm must demonstrate that they have implemented the 5 Steps management system for at least three of their five achievement list elements listed on their action plan to participate in the rebate.


Safety Group Associate Membership

Associate member status with WSPS Safety Group is available to interested firms. Associate membership includes attendance at up to 5 scheduled chapter meetings, participation in networking sessions, access to the ePMT system and other support programs, including the 10% discount on selected WSPS products and services. Associate membership does NOT include registration with the WSIB as a safety group member or access to any portion of the rebate available at the end of the Safety Group year. Associate members are not required to prepare action plans or submit year-end or maintenance reports.

Fee - $750
Any additional services requested by the Associate Member will be provided on a fee for service basis
