Life Quilt

About the LifeQuilt

The LifeQuilt is a unique and permanent memorial dedicated to the thousands of young women and men (between the ages of 15-24) who have been killed or injured on the job in Canada. It is a tapestry paying tribute to those who are woven together in life by a common thread – a workplace injury. The humanity behind the statistics is represented in each name, seam and stitch.

This remarkable project combines the gathering of stories and strong visual commemoratives, rendered in fabric, of 100 young people, who have been killed doing a day’s work. The focus panel is a 6’ x 9’ figure overlaid with the names of about four thousand young people who have been injured on the job in Canada. It will be constructed with the help of volunteers from across the country

Conceived by Toronto artist Laurie Swim, the LifeQuilt is supported by a group of public and private volunteers who are dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issue of young worker injuries.

IAPA has taken a leading role in supporting this unique initiative and asks that if you know of a young person who has been injured or killed as a result of a workplace incident and would like to honour their life and contribution to please call the Friends of the LifeQuilt at 1-800-406-IAPA (4272), ext. 2458 or refer to their website: www.youngworkerquilt.ca
