Parents of Young Workers

Is your child safe at work? Many parents assume their teen works in a safe environment and has received proper health and safety training from their employer. Yet statistics indicate on-the-job safety is a serious cause for concern. Overall, young workers 15 - 24 years of age accounted for approximately 17% of Ontario’s allowed lost time and no lost time claims covered by the WSIB from 2002 to 2006. During this five year period, there were 65,401 lost time claims, 172,566 no lost time claims, and 49 workplace-related traumatic fatalities for this age group.*
