Parents of Young Workers
Is your child safe at work? Many parents assume their teen works in a safe environment and has received proper health and safety training from their employer. Yet statistics indicate on-the-job safety is a serious cause for concern. Between 2004 and 2008, young workers 15 - 24 years of age accounted for approximately 16% of Ontario’s allowed lost time and allowed no lost time claims covered by the WSIB. During this five year period, there were 57,871 allowed lost time claims, 164,783 allowed no lost time claims, and 39 workplace-related traumatic fatalities for this age group.*
