  • Current Transcript or Recent Report Card / Course Report (copies will be accepted)
  • The intent of the Safety Poster is to increase awareness of health and safety for young workers and bring across a safety message in a way that will be easily understood. The poster must address one of the following health and safety topics:
    • Slips, trips and falls: this can include falls from height, falls on same level, as well as falls to lower levels. Hazards include wet/slippery walking surfaces, work at heights or an unguarded opening in the floor.
    • Machine safety: machines surround us on a daily basis, from large punching presses in a manufacturing plant, to the meat slicer at your local deli. Hazards include contact with moving parts or energies including electricity, pressurized gases or liquids.
    • Motor vehicle accidents (work related): there are more cars on the road than ever before, and many people drive as part of their work. Hazards include distracted and aggressive driving, and driver fatigue. Consideration should also be given to other vehicles (including cyclists) and pedestrians sharing the roadway.
    • Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs): regardless of industry or profession, MSDs target all individuals in the workplace. MSDs affect the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves in the human body, and develop as a result of force, repetition and/or fixed or awkward postures.
For more information on the above health and safety topics, visit the IAPA web site under Resources – Free Downloads.

2008/2009 J. V. Findlay Scholarship Award winners are:

Paige Elizabeth Claire Winkle
Paige is a high school student at the Bowmanville High School. The topic she presented was "Workplace Harassment". The poster depicts verbal abuse in the workplace and her presentation emphasized workers being aware of the warning signs of verbal harassment which is a much more subtle than physical harassment.

Jennifer McBrearty
Jennifer, an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, also touched on workplace harassment. Her poster captioned “What does a safe workplace look like? Take the steps to find out…. Don’t tolerate bullying at work” took into account the theme of the conference, which was “Imagine, Innovate, Inspire”. She used that theme to suggest ways to improve workplace safety. Jennifer's poster presented food for thought on the ways to deal with workplace bullying.
