Important Notice to Federally Regulated Organizations
New Law - Hazard Prevention Program Regulation Passed

The long awaited release of the “Hazard Prevention Program” regulations has now been passed into law. The regulations have now been registered and posted in the Canada Gazette Part II, and have therefore become law on November 28, 2005.

This amendment to the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (COHS Regulations) will add Part XIX “Hazard Prevention Program” to the COSH Regulations and require federally regulated employers to develop a prescribed program for the prevention of hazards in the work place.

Now under these new regulations the employer, in consultation with and with the participation of the policy committee, or, if there is no policy committee, the work place committee or the health and safety representative, will now have to analyze the work environment to identify what could cause an unsafe condition and implement measures to prevent this from occurring.

You may have some question regarding the content, or an approach to compliance with these new regulations. If you or your organization are interested in conducting an information briefing for your employees please contact IAPA Synergration at your convenience. We will also be announcing several public briefing sessions in the near future.

IAPA has developed programs, products and services in order to assist federal organizations with the actions that will be required in order to implement and comply with these new “Hazard Prevention Program” regulations.
