GE - Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. Tubing Receives
IAPA Health and Safety Award
IAPA’s Awards Program Helps Ensure Workplace Health and Safety
Mississauga , Ontario - March 27, 2008 - IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) presented GE - Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. Tubing with a Level I Health & Safety Achievement Award today. This is the first IAPA achievement award for the Arnprior, Ontario facility which produces zirconium tubes used to make nuclear fuel bundles and fuel channel components.
GE - Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. Tubing has been recognized for making health and safety a core value at its facility. The firm has implemented 21 health and safety elements as part of its corporate environmental, health, and safety program, GE Global Star. The 21 elements address issues such as job safety analysis, chemical management, and motor vehicle safety and annual audits are conducted to ensure all elements are met. An award and recognition program has also been created to encourage employeesto become more involved in the firm’s health and safety program.

GE - Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. Tubing received the Level I Health and Safety Achievement Award after IAPA conducted an on-site verification of its health and safety management systems on February 22, 2008. The company’s health and safety management program met the criteria needed to be recognized for this award. The firm also completed a self-assessment report and met IAPA award requirements, such as prevention methods, legislative compliance, management practices, and lost-time injury frequencies.
IAPA ’s three-level health and safety awards program was launched in 2002. The program is designed to celebrate an organization’s journey towards achieving workplace health and safety excellence. Since the inception of the program, 40 companies have received the Level I Health and Safety Achievement Award.
