IAPA’s Awards Program Helps Ensure Workplace Health and Safety

Mississauga, OntarioApril 15, 2008IAPA proudly presented Colt WorleyParsons’ Sarnia facility with a Level I Health and Safety Achievement Award this morning. The engineering firm specializes in engineering project delivery for the hydrocarbon industry.

The firm’s health and safety management program has enabled it to have a lost-time injury frequency that has been 100% better than its rate group since 2001. The firm managed to achieve these results by creating a health and safety program for all of its employees - staff and contractors - by way of conducting extensive training courses and supporting wellness programs.

“In achieving this award, the company demonstrates its commitment to developing a healthy and incident-free workplace for all,” says Larry Masotti, IAPA Manager, Consulting Services, Ontario. “Everyone knows their roles and responsibilities when it comes to health and safety. This award also shows that ColtWorleyParsons (Sarnia) understands and appreciates the importance of having a healthy workplace.”

“At Colt WorleyParsons, we want our employees to be thinking about safety 24/7,” says Sterling Rideout, Colt WorleyParsons, Director, Health, Safety & Environment. “We know that safety is critical to our company's success and it is rewarding to see our work and professionalism being recognized by organizations such as IAPA."

Colt WorleyParsons (Sarnia) received the Level I Achievement Award after IAPA conducted an on-site verification on November 26 and December 19, 2007. The company’s health and safety management program met the criteria needed to be recognized for this award. In addition, Colt WorleyParsons (Sarnia) completed the self-assessment report and met IAPA award requirements, such as prevention methods, legislative compliance, management practices, and lost-time injury frequencies.

IAPA’s three-level health and safety awards program was launched in 2002. The program is designed to celebrate an organization’s journey towards achieving workplace health and safety excellence.
