Pfizer Canada Receives IAPA Health and Safety Award
IAPA’s Awards Program Helps Ensure Workplace Health and Safety

Toronto, Ontario – March 6, 2007 – Today, IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) recognized the workplace health and safety accomplishments of Pfizer Canada’s Arnprior facility with a Level I Health & Safety Achievement Award. The Arnprior site is a first-time recipient of an IAPA achievement award and is involved in the manufacturing of prescription and consumer healthcare products for Pfizer Global Manufacturing.

Pfizer Canada’s Arnprior facility has consistently posted a lost-time injury (LTI) frequency significantly lower than the average associated with its Workplace Safety and Insurance Board rate group. The Arnprior site recently achieved two years without experiencing an LTI – an injury resulting in an employee unable to work for at least one day.

“Workplace health and safety excellence is a journey and this Level I Award is a clear sign that the Arnprior facility is well on its way,” says Dianne Tolgyesi, IAPA Principal Consultant, who presented Pfizer Canada with the award. “The Arnprior site has worked hard to integrate employee health and safety programs into its business and has demonstrated a real proactive approach to health and safety, such as networking with other firms to share best practices. This facility’s results show that the people here are committed to creating a culture that recognizes the importance of workplace health and safety.”

“One of Pfizer’s goals is to protect the health and safety of everyone at our facilities. We strive to attain zero workplace injuries of our colleagues and visitors by implementing a safety culture with committed and engaged employees,” says Don Gravelle, Manager, Security, Environmental, Health, and Safety at Pfizer Arnprior. “Achievement of this IAPA Health and Safety Award demonstrates the success of our program and is a well deserved recognition of the efforts of all of our colleagues at Arnprior to safety being an integral part of how we work each day.”

Pfizer Canada’s Arnprior facility is receiving this Level I Award in recognition of results achieved as of February 6, 2007, when

IAPA’s three-level health and safety awards program marks significant milestones in an organization’s journey to achieving workplace health and safety excellence. The awards program recognizes companies that take a proactive approach, while ensuring that their health and safety initiatives address industry standards and the needs of employees. The program also provides guidelines for incorporating effective health and safety processes into an organization’s plan, management practices, and injury prevention programs.

The Level I Award recognizes workplaces for ensuring that their health and safety program meets basic legislative requirements and management practices. The LTI frequency for Level I Award recipient companies must also fall below the average for companies in a similar grouping for a 12-month period. The next two levels of the awards program build on the first.

Thirty-seven companies have received IAPA’s Level I Award since the launch of the progressive awards program in 2002.
