Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP Receives IAPA Level II Health & Safety Award
Award Recognizes Journey Towards Health and Safety Excellence
Mississauga, Ontario – March 31, 2009 - IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) presented Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP with a Level II Health & Safety Achievement Award this morning at its Sarnia, Ontario location. Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP designs and manufactures heat transfer products in Sarnia and Toronto.
Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP reached this milestone by applying a number of processes to enhance its health and safety program. Initiatives included training its Joint Health and Safety Committee members, performing detailed workplace inspections, benchmarking safety best practices of other manufacturers, and using visual controls to inform and educate team members about safety performance. Through these initiatives, Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP noticed a significant reduction in workplace incidents and no lost-time injuries (LTI). It has also consistently posted LTI frequencies significantly lower than its Workplace Safety and Insurance Board rate group.
“This Level II award recognizes Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP's ongoing work and commitment to making health and safety a priority for staff," says Michelangelo LaSelva, Account Manager, Business Development, IAPA. "Keeping health and safety top of mind is especially important during the current economic climate. Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP is to be commended for ensuring its workers are always aware of their roles and responsibilities so that they can return home safely every day."
“This award is authentication of our conscious efforts to instil a safety first culture and provides recognition to our team members who are dedicated and committed to making the Sarnia site one of the safest workplaces in the world,” says Tony Kerwin, President of Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP. “With a strong safety culture, our people can focus on delivering value to our customers in an efficient and productive environment. We are proud of our team and this award allows us to differentiate ourselves within our industry and within manufacturing in Canada.”
To qualify for the Level II Award, Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP met IAPA’s Level II Award criteria as outlined in a self-assessment report. The firm successfully demonstrated that it had met award requirements such as legislative compliance, effective prevention methods and management practices, and reduced lost-time injury (LTI) frequency as outlined by IAPA. An onsite assessment of the facility was conducted by IAPA.
