Physical Demands Analyses (PDAs) outline the physical requirements of a job; for example, how much lifting, carrying, reaching, etc. is required. PDAs are often used to convey accurate information to doctors and to facilitate the early and safe return to work of injured workers. During this practical hands-on session, participants will complete a minimum of one customized PDA. This workshop objectives include:
- identifying reasons for using and having PDAs and the requirements for safety groups
- accurately completing a PDA/PDIF utilizing various measurement tools and techniques
- utilizing the data obtained to facilitate an injured worker's early and safe return to work
- analyzing the data obtained to identify potential musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and implement controls to prevent injuries
Participants can bring their own work examples for the individual activities. Otherwise, a sample generic job will be used for the activities. Participants will complete the appropriate form (PDA vs PDIF) based on their safety group element during the activities.
